About Me

Hi, I’m Azita Aflatouni, Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) at Southside Dental. I have been working in the dental industry on and off for 27 years and with Able Dental Group since the spring of 2018. My daily duties include preparing operatories to receive patients, taking various x-rays, oral cancer screening with the use of a VELscope, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) assessments. I also review the patient’s medical history for returning patients and consult with the Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) for new patients if there is a concerning condition. Charting the existing restorations, taking oral photos, dental cleanings, administering fluoride treatments, and rebooking patients are also a part of my daily tasks. I graduated from Beheshti Medical Science University in 1992 with an Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene. I have also completed the requirements for a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) level I & II in Ontario. I’m also certified in both Healing Arts Radiation Protection (HARP) and for dental hygiene in orthodontic clinics. I hold practice permits in both Alberta and Ontario. I’ve also tutored English at Hawaii Pacific University. I always look at my patients as a whole, this value as it relates to my career helps me relate to them, understand them, gain their trust and cooperation. Which leads to a positive outcome almost always. Outside of work, I love to hike, climb, run, bike, play volleyball, and table tennis. I read lots, especially poetry and am a part of a book club. I love to inspire, guide, help and teach family, friends, and anybody that crosses my path. I also, get involved in charity work at every chance I get! I’m married and a mother of 2 beautiful girls. I immigrated to Canada 26 years ago, moved around a few times from Toronto to New York, Hawaii, and finally to Medicine Hat where we have made home since.
